The Dahlonega Site is a testament to the United States' first gold rush, standing as a monument to the spoils and luxury that the gold rush yielded. The historic site is located adjacent to the North Georgia college and State University. The museum is housed inside the two story Lumpkin County Courthouse which was constructed in 1836, and served as a starting point for many prospector's Westward journey. Today, the museum tells the history about the gold rush and the early minting operation.
